At Pinon Real Estate Group, we love celebrating the creativity and talent that make the Salida community so unique. We’re excited to welcome our newest featured artist, Andrew Dengate, whose work is now on display at our downtown office in Salida.
Inspired by movement, landscape, and human connection, Andrew’s work reflects both his personal journey and the natural beauty of Colorado.
Growing up in Ferndale, a quiet suburb shaped by routine and discipline, Andrew spent much of his early life focused on academics and year-round training as a cross country and track runner. A college visit to Prescott, Arizona introduced him to an entirely different pace and way of life—one rooted in openness, exploration, and connection to the outdoors.
He later studied Biology at the University of Michigan, initially planning for a future in laboratory research. Over time, however, he realized he was drawn more toward experiences that connected him directly to people, place, and community. That realization ultimately brought him to Colorado, where he began working as a ski patroller at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area.
In 2020, a major life shift opened the door to a new creative path and a deeper commitment to art. Shortly after, Andrew relocated to Salida, where the surrounding landscape and strong sense of community became a meaningful source of inspiration for his work.
Central to many of his pieces is the Arkansas River—not simply as a landscape feature, but as a symbol of shared experience and human connection. Through recreation, instruction, challenge, and trust, the river creates moments that bring people together in powerful and lasting ways. Those themes continue to influence Andrew’s artistic perspective and process.
We invite the community to experience Andrew’s work in person and join us for an upcoming Artist Reception:
